William Norman (53) & his wife Jane ( 46 ) together with their daughter
Maria ( 9 ) were settlers in the Cape Colony in 1820 - the ages given relate
to that date. William Norman was a Silkweaver from Devonshire and sailed as
a member of Capt. Seton's group on board the East Indian , but coming under
the overall leadership of William Parker who headed up the whole party of
settlers. Seton was a Captain in the Madras army. William & Jane Norman
helped found the village of Seven Fountains in the Albany District of the
Eastern Cape Colony. Descendants still live in the area. Capt. Seton chose
to remain at Clanwilliam & did not move to Albany when most of the remnants
of Parker's ill-fated party chose to do so. Seton obtained the grant of a
piece of land quite remote from the settler locations at Clanwilliam . This
was referred to as Diepkloof on the northern point of the Lammershoekberg.
What happened to Capt Seton afterwards , I don't know.
