Hullo Louise, Sonia & Wayne

My mother & I had tea with her oldest sister yesterday & between the 2 of
them have noted a few errors in my info. I am unable to correct these today
-- as soon as I have, I'll forward the info.

Daan, Keith & Wayne, thanks for explaining 'vgl' -- 2 of you said it stands
for 'vergelyk' (compare) & one said 'vergesel' (accompany). In the source,
which uses 'x' to indicate marriage, it seems to indicate some kind of
relationship. I know people often had to 'marry' without benefit of the
clergy because of distance & isolation, but this was usually rectified when
they managed to find a minister to baptise the children (often several at
the same time) of such a union. That's one of the reasons baptismal dates
can in some instances be misleading about a person's actual birthdate. So
what do you think it (vgl) means in this context?

Regards
Maureen
