I worked in the mines as a student in the 1960's, and yes, everyone had to
have a medical exam from the Chamber of Mines. In Johannesburg the
examining office was at the top of Rissik St, near the Civic Theatre.
I imagine the Chamber of Mines has health records on every (white) person
who worked on the (gold) mines.
