Andre vR, Andre R, Delia and others
I'm being talked round!
Several things have made me think.
1. William Jervois' message about the closing of the History Museum in
Grahamstown (no funds)
2. The SA Archives computer breakdown (no funds)
3. A recent TV report on a riotous mob and its destruction of government
buildings and Churches in Kuala Lumpur
4. A recollection of a film on Nazism where valuable books were burned in a
frenzy of fanatic zeal.
5. all of which (or any) could happen anywhere....
On the other hand recently in Auckland a 'hacker'(at school still)
destroyed several hundreds of web sites and home pages at one ISP.
The economic situation in South Africa seems, (from this distance, and I
AM far away) unable to fund cultural sources such as Museums, Record
Offices, Archives etc.
So that many of us who in the past have had such sterling service from such
resources can at least put some of their information into our own sites.
Safe from silverfish at least!
All very interesting. Especially as I overheard Father Christmas talking on
the phone about a bigger faster more uptotheminute computer!
Cheers
Pat
