I recently bought a microfiche of 'List of Farms & their Owners within 10
miles of Railway Lines from Pretoria 1900'. It is a typewritten list by
area, then alphabetically by farm name giving the owners of each farm.
There are 46 pages averaging 30 people per page. There are very few
'English' surnames, presumably this list was made during the Boer War by
the British to establish which farms were likely to be 'unfriendly' and
maybe disrupt the Railway?
In its present form it is very time-consuming to consult for a particular
surname/person and I wondered if there was anyone belonging to this List
living in England who would be familiar with the surnames and willing to
transfer them into a database so they could be indexed/searched?
There is a copyright notice for this fiche, but if someone is willing to
index it, I could contact the publisher to ask their permission.
The Company selling this fiche advertizes in Family Tree Magazine, if
anyone wishes to buy their own copy.
