Dear Janet and William
Having seen the bits on Dickason/Ferreira connections, please could you throw
some light on the following which seems to be incorrect (quoted from 'The
Descendants of Thomas Philipps, 1820 Settler - Anon) ...
"Other families connected by marriage with the Philipps family -
Ignatius Ferreira (1808-1888) 4 sons 8 daughters, was a great soldier, and
took part in most of the (Frontier) wars. In the Zulu war 1877-1879 he was
Colonel in Charge of the Imperial Forces under Lord Wolsley and in 1880 won a
decoration. He settled in the Transvaal, and had a big hand in opening up
the gold mines. "Ferreira Mine' was named after him. Eventually he returned
to a farm in Northern Transvaal where he died and was buried under a large
pepper tree."
Something is wrong with the 1808-1888 dates here. Even if the dates apply to
IPF's father, there is something wrong. Please help if you can.
I would very much like to bring the records of the marriage between
Petronella Ferreira (Ignatius' daughter) and Edward Thomas Philipps, only son
of Frederick Philipps up to date. Is this 'branch' in the new book? If so,
look forward to seeing it.
Regards ... Dave
