Dear Delia,

I agree with you wholeheartedly and sometimes when I see all the
information available overseas i.e. Passenger Lists etc, etc. I want to
just sit down and cry. But I have been thinking ..... (which is a
dangerous pastime of mine!) there is a little graveyard not too far from
me which is a family grave yard of my mother-in-law's (van Zyl). There
are graves from ages ago there which I am sure not many people know
about. It may just solve some poor genealogists blocked wall and enable
them to find a long long ancestors.

I have decided that I am going to spend a couple of hours there and
write down all the names, dates and inscriptions on the tombstones and
then send it to C Mercer and request that he put it on his site (if at
all possible)... maybe if everyone subscribing to this list lets him
have a copy of whatever they have which could be of interest to others
he could start his own page similar to that of CyndisList but with a
South African flavour. I am sure if everyone did their little bit our
problem would look a lot better. I am sure there are people sitting out
there with copies of passenger lists on which their ancestors are listed
- but there could also be a lot of other people's ancestors on these
lists as well.

Another thing we could all do is have a kind of a "roll call" of books /
information which we can lay our hands on without too much trouble and
thereby do look-ups for others who do not have this information. Just
an idea - what do the others think on the list. More importantly - what
does Mr Mercer think of this hairbrained idea??

Regards
