Hello Wally
Pleased to read that you found some data. My only experience is in looking
at the lists of records in the Public Record Office, Kew where I did some
research on a merchant vessel Chesterfield which was seized by HMS Diomede
on 1 Dec 1800.
Although some papers have remained purely because they were handed in to a
Record Office, most of the documents appear to still exist because they were
needed for some sort of investigation following a misadventure such as
shipwreck, crime, military action, etc.
