Members of Scots [perhaps Irish too] Clans in the US managed to wield
enough influence so that the US House approved legislation to declare
April 6th Tartan Day. Many people are expected to wear their Clan
tartans to work and there will even be a parade in Washington. Gosh,
wouldn't it be nice to have a Clan day here --- just think of how
multi-cultural it would be. [And in addition to tartans we could also
all carry our cultural weapons! :)] Seriously though, I think
celebration of culture is good for the soul and in most cases is good
for cross-cultural relations and so here is a poem that the listowner
posted to the Robertson list.

The Tartan
by Murdoch Maclean

Gentlemen, the Tartan,
Here's to it!
The fighting sheen of it,
The yellow, the green of it,
The white, the blue of it,
The swing, the hue of it.
The fair have sighed for it,
The brave have died for it.
Foemen sought for it,
Heroes fought for it.
Honour the name of it,
Drink to the fame of it.
The Tartan.

So simple, but isn't that stirring stuff? Regards. Delia.
