The Mathew family moved in the same circle as - and possibly married into
the Tredgolds, Ardernes etc, probably also the Merringtons - for all of
which I have records I could check later today. There was also a Mathew who
married a daughter or son of John Philip - can also check for you. John
Harfield Tredgold - secretary of the Cape of Good Hope Philanthropic
Society - was also a pharmacist. Peter Philip's book on pre-1818 British
settlers has entries for Tredgold, Merrington - see also Allsopp.
Will fill out the details later.

Church at Harfield, Claremont, Cape. John Alfred Mathew, his son, was the
Mathew of the well-known Cape Town pharmaceutical firm Heynes Mathew.

registers of the Cape Town Baptist Church are kept.
