Subject: Advice on how to trace a William Radley

Any advice on how to proceed with the following would be much
appreciated.

We have at last managed to identify my great great grandfather but the
information is rather sketchy.

A death notice and a copy was found in the Cape Archives (MOOC and MOK
sources) which described him as William Thomas Redly (actually Radley),
born in the Cape Colony, father William and mother Susan (actually
Susara), age 45 died 22 June 1900 in Kimberly hospital, he was married
but wife unknown and children unknown. He had no property or will at the
hospital. The death notice was completed by a dr Rooth or Raath. The
dates and ages tie up with the information we have.

We know that he was fighting in the Boer War at the time and assume that
this early death was related to the war (does this seem right with a
Kimberley location). If he was in the Kimberley hospital does that point
us to any specific commando. He fought on the side of the Boers. We have
been trying for ages to identify his wife and children but are a little
stuck.

Can anyone recommend a path forward or potential sources that could
assist with progressing this investigation.

A last point. We have identified an occupation described as "carrier".
Does anyone know what this means.

Regards
