I don't know about ports and emmigration records in SA, but your ancestors
would undoubtably have sailed to Southampton, England, and then travelled
on to Ireland. The relevant records in England are only available in the
the Public Record Office, Kew, London. The information is in "BT 26 -
Passenger Lists Inwards, 1877-1960". This is a large group of documents to
which there is no index of names. Knowing the port and the date within a
couple of years, it would still take a good few hours to search through.
Debbie Beavis (; http://www.beavis.co.uk) is a
maritime researcher who will conduct research in Kew. She has given me
helpful advice in the past, but I have not used her research services.
