Hi All,

There is a family rumour that my ggg-grandfather, Jacob GIDEON (b. 1824
Wellington; d. 1907 Douglas) changed his surname to GIDEON after a family
spat. I have no details of his parents. All his children were baptised
GIDEON, the first in 1861, so the name-change would have occured before
then.

Are there any official records I could consult to verify the name change?
