Apologies to all on the List for replying this way but it "kills two birds
with one stone" and maybe it might just give some third party a lead!

Thanks for the "compliment" - Mike's wife definitely says "Mike does not
know everything!" :-)
However from my records I have the following events on record :
Major William J. O'Connor served with the 60th Foot Regiment in 1806 in the
Cape.
Capt. O'Connor arrived in Table Bay 24/12/1827 aboard the Mary bound for
Bombay. (No further information)
Capt. O'Connor and 1 child arrived in Table Bay 31/12/1832 aboard the Fame
from Ascension Island and St. Helena. (No further information)
Now the latter 2 snippets are later than 1820 (Harriett and Robert O'Connor
arrived on the Northampton with William Smith's party of 1820 Settlers) so I
think that they would not apply. Although you are looking for "Captain"
O'Connor (he may have got promotion to Major) I would suggest that you go to
your nearest LDS and check their Subject/Locality fiche to see whether or
not they have microfilmed the service records of the 60th Foot Regiment
(they have done some but not all) and if they have then order the film and
look to see if this Major William had any children/dependants. That would be
my suggestion.
Oh and by the way if either of you do go to the LDS and do get lucky and
find Major William's service record, please copy out what it says for my
records :-). Many thanks.
Regards
Mike
