The Genealogical Institute of South Africa (GISA) has been
established in order to undertake, support and to promote
genealogical research in South Africa. The Institute is based in
Stellenbosch.

A position of Director has been established to manage the institute.

Applications for the post of Director are presently being invited.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake own research
and to accept manageral responsibilities for

* The administration and upkeep of facilities and services
* The development and monitoring of a research programme
* The expansion, classification, indexing and interpretation of the
Institute's genealogical resources
* The conclusion and management of co-operation agreements with
researchers, and other interested parties supporting the
objectives of the Institute
* The promotion of the services and facilities of the Institute among
researchers and other potential users of genealogical information
* The canvassing of sponsorships and donations with a view to
financing the activities of the Institute.

Interested candidates should:

* Have experience of genealogical research and be able to provide
guidance in managing research projects
* Have basic computer skills
* Be able to exercise financial control, and
* Have the necessary skills to conclude co-operation agreements with
researchers and institutions
* Assume duties preferably on 1 March 1998.
