On 2 Dec. Dave Glenister wrote stating that some of the family had been led
to believe that our ancestor Harriet Smith (born O'Connor) had died in
Barbados and not in SA.

In an extract from LDS records we had the following: "Mrs. Harriet Smith -
Died 15th December 1863 at Kirton Villa Parish of Christ Church Island of
Barbados, W.I. the residence of the eldest son. Mrs. Harriet Smith relict
of late Assistant General J.J. Smith aged 60 years."

From the Grahamstown Journal - Cory Library Rhodes University we had the
following: "Died 15th Dec. 1863 Kirton Villa Parish of Christ Church
Island Barbados. W.I. the residence of her eldest son, relict of the late
Ass. Com. General J.J. Smith aged 60 years." 22/3/1864.

If this information is indeed wrong, I would be very interested in finding
out the truth of the matter!
