Hello, David,
Continuing with information supporting Wayne's note:
Norval Pont was established as a Concentration Camp in 1900. By 1901, the
death-rate in Orange Free State camps had risen to 401 per 1,000 per year.
The 'J.J. Potgieter Manuscript' page at -
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Delphi/4376/camps01.htm has more details,
and you can find more info at the South African War Virtual Library page -
http://www.uq.edu.au/~zzrwotto/con-camps.html

David whilst looking up something for somebody else I also came across some
information in "The Boer War" by Thomas Pakenham, which mentions twice,
that during this war, Norvals Pont was a concentration camp run by the
British.

If you wish for more information on this, let me know.
