I see from the SA Roots list that you have a copy of the above. Would you
please have a quick look and see what you can find about Christopher Hudson
McComb and William Titterton please. The former may have been born in
Belfast - we don't know how or when he went to SA but he died there in
1842. He wasn't an 1820 Settler. The latter was born in 1804 in
Shropshire, England and again don't know how or when he went to SA.

and also.........................

I am trying to find out more about these names. I already have quite a lot
but specifically want to find out how, why and when William Titterton and
William Sutherland emigrated from England to SA.

Many thanks

Hi David

This is what I have come up with, from "British Residents at the Cape" as
you asked,

No listing of a Christopher Hudson McComb.

McCOMBIE, C, Lt Royal African Corps. Served SA 1817-20+ (21) 30.6.17 arr.SB
in "Astrea" ex Portsmouth (100/25) See MJ Sparks

TITTERTON, William. 1819 arr. at the Cape, aged 46, with his wife Elizabeth
(158). Note that a Thomas Titterton was killed on 6.3.35 at Trompetter's
Drift during the 6th Frontier War (19).

SUTHERLAND, W E, Ens. 93rd Highlanders. Served SA 1811-14 (21)

Hope this is a help in some small way, let me know if you need any thing
further.
