Family legend would have it that my gr-grandfather, William Byus
(Bias/Byass) settled in the colony after he was shipwrecked at Knysna c
1855. The `Musquash' and `Josephine' g foundered during that period
in the area.

My search to identify the ship concerned has covered naval and other
periodicals of the day; museums; CO records of departures and arrivals
in the archives; and - I have also been in contact with people who are
familiar with the history of George and Knysna.
William, then 21 years old, was probably a crew member rather than a
passenger. Would a ship's logbook give the names of crew and if so
where would one find these?

Any suggestions would be most welcome,
Lorna.
