In Ancestor, the quarterly journal of the Genealogical Society of
Victoria, Australia, Vol. 23, No. 6, winter 1997, I found an article
about the early history of the Irons family in Natal.
In 1849 William Irons of the Natal Christian Colonisation Society led a
party of some 400 emigrants. About 150 of them settled in Verulam, the
town created by the Society, and many settled in Durban. There is a list
in the article of the emigrants who arrived from October 12, 1849 on the
'King William' to May 3, 1851.
