Dear Listers,



I am trying to trace my GGrandfathers family, I have been at this now for
ten years and cannot find any documentation on him or his Parents and
siblings.



I do have the following, which unfortunately has not led to any leads on
him.



My ggrandfather Thomas Ellis ( m ) Martha Moody ( b ) 3rd October 1853 at
Yellowwoods, Eastern Cape ( Baptised Wesleyan Methodist Church Grahamstown,
surname incorrectly reflected as Moodie ). I have a copy of this
certificate. I have no Birth / Marriage / death documentation on either of
them.



I do know that they were married before the 3rd March 1887, Martha's fathers
dod, as she is shown on his death notice as "Children of the deceased"
Martha Moody ( m ) Thomas Ellis.



His place of death is reflected as Ncere Yellow wood, King Williams Town.



Thomas and Martha had the following children :



Thomas Cameron ELLIS ( b ) 5th April 1879 ( m ) Johanna Magritha Katrina
HERBST ( dob +/- 1884, age given as 18 on marriage cert. ) at the Wesleyan
Methodist Church Mafeking on May 26th 1902, his age was given as 23. I have
no Birth / death documentation on either of them.



A witness on this marriage certificate was shown as a Janet Embline ELLIS,
the family spoke of an Aunt Nettie, I have assumed that this is the Aunt
Nettie ( Janet ).



Charles Cameron ELLIS ( My Grandfather ) ( b ) 24th Jul 1884, said to be
Hogsback, Eastern Cape, ( dod ) 17th Dec 1957 Mafeking. ( m ) Louisa Johanna
Maria HERBS ( sister to Johanna Magritha Katrina above ) ( b ) 14th April
1890, Zeerust Transvaal, (dod ) 26th Sep 1978. I only have Louisa's Baptism
Cert. I have no Birth / Marriage / death documentation on either of them.





David Greer ELLIS ( b ) 29th Apr 1887, died Mafeking..... No other
information on him, believed to have died at an early age ?



Annie Greer ELLIS ( b ) 1888 place of birth shown on DN as Welcome Woods
near Alice King Williams Town ( This should be Yellowwoods as most
references reflect Yellowwoods ( m ) James RUGG, she died in Johannesburg. I
have no Birth documentation on either of them.





Elizabeth Greer ELLIS ( b ) 8th Nov 1880 place of birth shown on DN as King
Williamstown ( m ) Donald Alexander CLARK died 1930, then William John
TRENGOVE ( d ) 8th March 1953. Elizabeth died 3rd Aug 1963 Krugersdorp. I
have no Birth /documentation on the three of them and no document on the
Trengove marriage.



Janet Embline ELLIS I have no documentation at all on Janet Embline.



I would like to hear from any lister who may have CAMERON / GREER or EMBLINE
as regular family names. But ultimately my main concern is to find ancestors
of Thomas ELLIS my ggfather.



The DN that I have obtained reflects the parent's details as " Deceased",
which unfortunately does not help me !!



I apologise for the size of this request and would appreciate any feedback,
I will be traveling to both Mafeking and the Eastern Cape in November, and
will also appreciate any guidance of where to go, when there, based on the
information I have supplied.
