HISTORY OLYMPIAD for SA SCHOOLS

INVITATION TO ATTEND
BACKGROUND:
The Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns, in conjunction with the
Vaal Triangle Campus of North-West University, will host a half-day summit
on the South African Schools History Olympiad.
The olympiad has traditionally been one of the premier annual events for
learners in history at South African schools.
The Akademie's commission for historical studies has been tasked with the
responsibility of making recommendations how to present the prestigious
event in a new format and in such a manner that it retains its intrinsic
value in the future.
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of the summit is to consult with a broad representative
spectrum of stakeholders to get opinions and standpoints on the manner in
which the competition should be presented in future.
VENUE:
Building 6, Old Mutual Auditorium, North-West University, Vaal Triangle
Campus, Hendrik van Eck Boulevard, Vanderbijlpark.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Educators, academics in History and Educational Sciences, as well as
representatives of the national and provincial departments of education.

Prof. Jörn Rüsen, president of the Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut
(KWI), Nordrhein-Westphalia, Germany.
