SAHO'S AUGUST 9 WOMENS PROJECT
South Africa History Online (SAHO) aims to celebrate the 50 th anniversary
of the 9 August 1956 Women's Anti-Pass March in Pretoria with a
comprehensive project about South African women and their place in our
history. To set the ball rolling we are inviting you to get involved in the
preparations. We want to ensure that the celebration is a truly
people-centered event led by civil society, and one that will complement
other official programmes organized by government.
We are building a people's history website that will showcase the role women
played in shaping the South Africa we know today. We hope to celebrate and
honour the contribution of women activists by building an online memorial
that provides the names and biographies of the thousands of South African
and anti-apartheid women activists around the world.
