THEME : "Echoes from the Lodge"
Iziko Museums of Cape Town is hosting an exhibition highlighting the "daily
domestic life at the Cape and in Batavia during the Dutch East India Company
[VOC] colonial period".

TIME :
The exhibition opened on Friday, 12 December 2003 and will run until the end
of April 2004.

VENUE :
The newly, renovated SLAVE LODGE, which only surviving VOC company slave
quarters in the world, at the threshold of the Parliamentary complex at the
top of ADDERLEY STREET and WALE STREET, Cape Town.

PORTFOLIO :
Comprises of 75 thematic pieces of colonial furniture from the 17th & 18th
centuries and other personal possessions which serves as visual
representations of how the inhabitants of the Cape conducted their daily
domestic lives.

This Dutch period furniture will, also, depict the lives of slaves who made
them, relate their craftmenship in both Batavia and at the Cape [of Good
Hope], and how closely the role of slaves and their status were intertwinned
with the day-to-day existence of the other Cape inhabitants during the Dutch
VOC period.
