Subject: [SoAfricaHistory] Dispatch Book- PLANT NURSERY

Dear Listers
I have recently come across a Dispatch Book kept by members of my family who
were in the PLANT NURSERY business in Victoria, Australia in the 1880 - 1910
period.
It has over 400 entries of dispatches of fruit trees (presumably bare
rooted) to various people in South Africa between 1902 and 1903. It lists
each order in great detail eg 10 apple (5 Late Corking, 1 Early Dessert
varieties), 5 Japanese Plum (2 Satsuma), etc.
There seem to be 2 sets of names:
- the first (usually A Buhr and CH Hartmann) occurs on all of them and may
be the name of a South African Agent or Distributor.
- the second name is almost certainly the client as it has full name and
address such as:
D Havermann, Greytown
Chris Keyter, Spickfontein, Krantzkop, Greytown
SW Reynolds, Newcastle
AC Vermaak, Helpmakaan? Dundee
John Isaacs, Ladysmith
L Petersen, Frere
Is this information of interest to anyone on this (or some other SA) list?
Regards
Roger
Queensland, Australia
