I think I found the answer to my own questions. Could Arthur have been
Prince Arthur of Connaught, who presumably had a wife, titled by default,
Princess? He, Arthur, became Governor General in November 1920.
Regards. Delia Robertson.

| . . . is he really Arthur; and, who was the Princess?
|
| Hello All:
|
| Anyone care to help solve a puzzle for me? I have a handful of letters
| written by a person whose signature appears to be Arthur, with no
| surname/first name. They are all written ca 1920 to Alfred G.Robertson,
who
| at the time was Administrator of the Transvaal.
|
| They are all on official letterheads of Government House, either Cape Town
| or Pretoria. They are handwritten, in an almost illegible hand, with one
| exception, this being sent from Government House, Pretoria and dated 22nd
| November, 1920. It begins:
|
| "My dear Mr. Robertson,
| I appreciate very highly the admirable arrangements made by you for
the
| reception of the Princess and myself upon our arrival at Pretoria, . . ."
|
| So any suggestions regarding the mysterious Arthur? Was it Arthur, was it
| his first or surname? I suspect he may have been the Governor General.
And
| who was the Princess?
