Charlotte,
Here is something from my files, I copied and pasted: This is on James
Roney.
==============================================================
James Roney from Carlow County, Ireland died in 1738 in Richmond Co. VA The
first family of the Roney's were Catholic, but in succeeding generations, we
find Baptist andPresbyterian , etc.
This information is from William Huffman of Yakima WA, another Roney
descendent: James Roney imigrated to America in 1700. He arrived in VA and
found a thriving colony of hard working progressive people. Agriculture was
the main industry there. Grain, cotton and tobacco were the main crops. He
settled on the eastern side of the Rappahonnock river in Richmond County
about 40 miles from Chesapeake Bay. Countyseat of Richmond County is now
Warsaw, VA. James built a home and cleared land for cultivation. There
were plenty supplies of fish in the river, and small game was plentiful in
the fields. He was successful in his farming activities and cleared more
land for cultivation.
REFERENCE "RONEY FAMILIES' BY WILLIAM B ROWLAND AND MARY SEARLE ROWLAND,
1979.
No records were found of the court settlements of the estate of James Roney.
There were no records found in the archives division, VA State Library or in
the Richmond County Courthouse.
