Subject: [ROGERS-BEN] John (the Powder Maker) Continued
Date: Wed, 23 May 2001 03:31:38 EDT
Cousins,
Stephen Henderson Rogers, b. 1867 was the son of Henderson Rogers b. 1820 and
the grandson of Major David Rogers b. 1779. Stephen was the 10th child of
Henderson who was the 10th child of David.
In a letter dated Jan. 18, 1956, Stephen H. Rogers wrote, " My great
grandfather was " John Rogers. He was born in Wythe County, Va. was a
soldier in the battle of Kings Mountain, October 1780, and claimed to have
fired the shot that killed Ferguson."
We know that John (the Powder Maker) was not born in Wythe Co as it did not
exist until 1789 and the family probably did not move to the area until about
1769. Was John's great grandson also wrong about his participation in the
great battle of King's Mountain?
