Lynn:

I can't identify your George THORNBURGH or family members and the
records I have for Baltimore MM only go to 1800 but there was a
Thornbrugh family associated with this meeting as early as
1795 when they first appear as witnesses to a marriage there.
You might check the LDS Family History Library to see if they
have microfilmed later meeting records. I think it is safe to
say your George had Quaker roots although I'm not certain who
his parents may have been.

Most THORNBRUGH, (Thornbroughs, Thornburghs) trace their ancestry
back to Robert Thornbrough & wife Sarah Jackson of Lurgan MM, County
Armagan, Ireland and Cotehill MM, Co. Cavan, Ireland who married 1685.
Two sons or cousins, or an uncle and nephew came to America by the
names of Edward and Thomas. Thomas presented his certificate to
Haddonfield MM, NJ in 1718, appears with a wife Sarah in 1732 at New
Garden MM, PA. In 1734 Thomas and Sarah witnessed the will of Edward in
Lancaster Co., PA where they later became members of Sadsbury MM,
Lancaster Co., PA. This Thomas =MAY= be the father of Robert T.
(below) who married at Warrington MM, York Co. PA in 1763. I've
seen no proof of this myself.

From my bookshelf:

Peden, Henry C., Jr., _Quaker Records of Northern Maryland, 1716-1800_,
Family Line Publications, 1994

Cassandria T., wife of Jos. T. was received from Indian Spring MM on

Walmer, Margaret, 100 Years at Warrington (York Co., PA), Heritage

18th of 8th month 1763 Robert THONBRUGH of Middletown, Cumberland
County, PA married Catherine Rosborough dtr of Robert & Elinor
Rosborough of Allin Twp, Cumberland Co., PA at Warrington
Right col. witnesses: Robert Thornbrugh, Cathrine Thornbrugh, Robert
Rosborough, Elinor Rosborough, Sarah Thornbrugh, Susannah Thornbrugh,
Thomas Thornbrugh, Joshua Rosborough, Samuel Morthland, Thos Evans,
Abigail Wily, Jane Huges & Sarah Atkinson.

11th of 5th mo 1775 Thomas THORNBRUGH of Warrington Twp., County
York, PA son of Robert Thornbrugh deceased married Phebe WIERMN dtr of
Nicholas Wierman of Huntington, York Co., PA

Right column witnesses included Nicholas and Sarah Wireman, Catherine
Thornbrugh (possibly the step-mother of the groom), Mary Thornbrugh. A
Robert Thornbrugh was also a witness and signed in the middle column..
I also show possibly this Robert having married first to a Deborah Evans
before 1759 when Robert and family left Sadbury MM, PA.

If you have further information on your George, perhaps I
can be of more help later on. I am a Thornbrough descendant
myself and have been collecting information on this family
for some 30 years.
