Good Day,
Wanted to chat with anyone in regards to Quakers in NC. I just finished reading some resource material that indicated they were BIG in NC for taking people to court who mistreated their slaves...

I have a situation where I find an ancestor of mine that list himself as a Quaker, however, in 1815 paid poll tax for 3 blacks. He was 65 at the time and had never owned slaves prior to that. What I am trying to figure out is why a Quaker would pay poll tax for blacks?
