If you haven't seen it, you should read "The Case of the Vanishing Ancestry"
by Wallace Evan Davies in The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine
vol. 28 (1973-4) no. 1, pp. 14-29.
As Gary Boyd Roberts says (NEHGR 141:106) Mr. Davies "conclusively and
amusingly refutes the royal descent..." of William Gayer of Nantucket.
