Some of the earliest Virginia records now reside in the Huntington Library
in San Marino, California, but the Virginia State Library has photostats of
those and many Virginia records now in the official depository for Virginia
Yearly Meeting, Haverford College, where the records were deposited by the
Orthodox branch of Baltimore Yearly Meeting. I have never confirmed a
separate monthly meeting at Genito (which Weeks places in Goochland County),
but the Upper Quarterly Meeting of 1759/04/04 established the schedule for
the "Circular" monthly meeting (which became settled at Cedar Creek) as 3
months at Camp Creek, 3 months at Caroline (county), 3 months at Cedar
Creek, and 3 months at [what I read as] Genete.
I think previous posts on this list have discussed where that and other
meetings for worship met. I have seen a paper on "Early Caroline Quakers
and Their Meeting House" prepared for _Tidewater Virginia Families_; perhaps
someone prepared something similar for Hanover and Goochland Counties.
>From MONTHLY MEETINGS IN NORTH AMERICA: A QUAKER INDEX, FOURTH EDITION,
REVISED (with corrections through March 27, 1998) Copyright 1998, and
minor additions and format changes for the electronic version:
VIRGINIA Yearly Meeting opened 1696/10 or 1702/09 and laid itself down
1844/05/22, attaching itself to Baltimore Yearly Meeting (Orthodox) as (the
new) Virginia Half-Yearly Meeting. Baltimore (FUM) Yearly Meeting in 1967
stored the Virginia records at the Quaker Collection, Haverford College
Library, Haverford, Pennsylvania; the Virginia State Library, Richmond,
having earlier obtained photostats of many of these and other records held
privately. Phebe R. Jacobsen, Quaker Records in Maryland (1966), traces the
meetings and lists the records microfilmed by the Maryland State Archives
before the transfer to Haverford, with microfilm stored at the Hall of
Records in Annapolis and copies at the Friends Historical Library of
Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Jay Worrall, Jr, The Friendly
Virginians: America's First Quakers (1994), discusses all the meetings and
many individual Friends in Virginia from the 1650s until about 1991.

Dear Rooters:
I will be in the Richmond, Virginia area this summer and am planning a
little genealogy research. I am interested in seeing the MM records of some
of the meetings in early Virginia (1650 - 1790). Am interested in finding
the records of the following meetings:
Camp Creek MM
Cedar Creek MM
Genito MM
Does anyone know if the records still exist and where they are located?
Also interested in finding out the location of those meetings - do any
structures survive? are there any cemeteries in the area that were
connected to these communities?
I am researching the following families:
Thanks for any suggestions/assistance!
