Tacy may not have been a nickname for Tacita for an individual.
However, the origin of the name was as a shortened form of
Tacita, just as the following pairs were related:
Nancy from Ann
Betsy/Beth/Betty/Bess from Elizabeth
Sally/Sadie from Sarah
Molly/Polly from Mary
Peg from Margaret
Gail from Abigail
Patsy from Martha
So, even though a woman may often now be named Nancy
or Sally, the names themselves originated as nicknames
for Ann and Sarah. >>
Seth and Tom,
In the Bible records I've encountered, I have not seen anything but given
names, never nicknames. I have seen Tacy in the same listings as Susanna,
Mary, Elizabeth, etc., while I have not encountered Suky, Molly, Beth, etc. I
believe that among Quakers, Tacy was a given name and not a nickname.
