Subject: Embree genealogy book publication approaching
Date: Tue, 08 Apr 1997 23:42:41 -0500

I received this week from Robert Ambler an announcement of an upcoming
new genealogy of the Embree family, and I think several researchers on
this list will be interested. I'll quote a couple of paragraphs and
then make some comments:

"After more than ten years of research, compilation and editing, we are
finall nearing completion of "Embree Footprints", a history of the
Embree descendants of Robert Embree of Stamford, CT.

"The history has over 1,200 pages and will be published in five
volumes, with one volume for generations one through five and four
branch volumes for generations six through fourteen. Besides names,
dates and places, it will include all of the interesting biographical
material that we have found in our research and that members of the
family have graciously furnished."

The letter goes on to state that Robert is not attempting to make any
profit on these books. To make sure he does not LOSE money, he will not
advertise and will print only as many books as he can sell. So he must
know in advance who is interested. He will be publishing in about two
weeks.

I am descended from this family, as was President Hoover. I expect to
buy at least the first volume, and perhaps the one that lists the
descendants of Samuel Embree of Pennsylvania. I have corresponded with
Robert in the past and find his work to be careful and complete, though
of course not perfect.

I phoned him tonight and asked if I could let you all know about this.
He was glad for me to do it. He said he thought the cost of each volume
would be in the $20 to $35 range, with the set of five being about $120
total. The first volume with the early geneartions would be in the low
$20s, and the volume containing the descendants of Samuel Embree of
Pennsylvania will be the largest and most expensive.

Once he knows about how many copies he will be making, he will send out
another mailing with details about pricing. Those of you who are
interested can contact Robert by mail:

Robert F. Ambler
4606 Drew Avenue North
Robbinsdale MN 55422

His phone number is 612/533-4874

He expects to go ahead before the end of the month, so do not delay.
Contacting him now does not oblige you to buy a book, but only lets him
know you are interested.

I've pretty much told everything I know, and I'll be out of town until
next week, but I will try to reply to questions.
