Hello - I am a new subscriber and would like some info about south eastern
Quebec. When someone says their ancestor was from St John's, Quebec, would
this be referring to a town or township? Might this be referring to the old
Fort St John's that was rather notable during Revolutionary times? My
great grandfather, Thomas Cutting came from Suffolk, Eng. to Quebec in
1823. He was about three years of age. I assume he was with his family but
I don't know the names of his parents. When he was l8, he came down into
the States and resided in the Auburn, NY area. His obituary stated he was
from St John's and that he was Baptist. He died in 1902 in Bloomington,
Illinois. I think the family came from East Anglia with a group of Baptists
or at least non-conformists. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Hopefully, Janet from Montana
