Charles,
YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE! Rachel Cummins you spoke of was the daughter of
Joseph Cummins and Rosannah Colyer (I believe). Joseph was the son of Malachi
Cummings and Verlinda Taylor. They are ancestors of one of my line of
Cummings/Cummins known family ties. I even know another living direct descendant in
CA. Her father used to work for Hurst out there. Small, small, small world.
The Verlinda Taylor is also related to President James Madison who married
Dolly Payne Todd Madison. Zachary Taylor was also in her ancestry. Dolly
Payne Todd Madison was related to the Pennocks/Penicks and the Cummings.

Joseph Cummings/Cummins was in the line of our Josephus Cummings who married
a Gruelle related to my Great Grandfather's Pennocks (the Chester County
Pennocks). Josephus/JOseph were also in the family of a known family hero who
died at the Alamo. His name was David Porter Cummings. David had a sister
(Sophia ?) who married, moved to LA, husband died, and she went to Texas to
live near a cousin, Stephen, in Austin. Stephen was directly descended from
Josephus Cummins and Rosannah, parents of the Rachel Cummins/Cummings mentioned
above, tied with your tidbit of info. David also had another sister (Ellen
?) who marriied twice-2nd husband was an Anderson in the line of Harry
Patterson Kelly from PA. David's Porter Cummings has ties to New England families
as well as VA.

David Porter Cummings (died at the Alamo) had a Penick grandmother. This is
what our oral family history says. His mother was a Cathers, father, David
Cummings. David Porter Cummings was born in PA--Lewistown, a few miles where
my gr grandparents resided. In 43 years I haven't been able to pinpoint the
Penick grandmother. She must have been on the maiden side related to
Cathers. Some of the Penicks were said to have moved to an area called Bexar Texas
because of a very large land grant given because David died at the Alamo.
It was thousands of acres and the land was divided between extended family,
including Penicks.

Thanks again,
Sue
