I have been trying to stick with records where the name spelling is
correct. SHEARER is a more common spelling for the name, though some of
my Sheerers may have had their name spelled wrong by a census taker. Our
family Bible is very consistent with its spelling of the name as SHEERER.
Joseph was living in Knowlton, NJ when he enlisted in the army. Wayne
County is close enough that this could, indeed, be my Joseph, but I am not
comfortable with the discrepancies. Maybe some more digging into Wayne
County records would uncover something.

Thanks for the idea. I have been searching more in NJ than in PA for him.
