Season's Greetings to all!
I have decided to work on this line of my tree and will take this opportunity
to introduce myself to the members of the list. (For those of you on the
Wayne Co. list, please forgive a little duplication in this post.)
Around 1830 my ggg-grandfather, Wilhelm (William) ROHRBACHER, left
Weingarten, Karlsruhe, Germany with his wife and daughter and came to the US,
*likely* with his brother Jacob and sister Catherine and her husband, Charles
Wolf. William was counted in the 1830 census in Sterling township. By the
1840 he had moved over into Greene Township in Pike County and he stayed
there until the mid 1860's when he and his youngest 2 children (including my
gg-grandfather) moved to Illinois.
Three of William's sons (Samuel b 1831, Daniel b 1833, and Lewis b 1840)
stayed in Greene Township while several other children are counted in
Sterling/Dreher Township in Wayne Co.
My sources thus far have been primarily census records with help from Civil
War Pension files, a few copy pages from the Commemorative Biographical
Record, Church registers from Weingarten, and some family notes.
I would love to correspond with anyone who might have connections to the
ROHRBACHER or ROBACKERs from this area. Suggestions for other sources of
vital and civil information would be most gratefully accepted. I do have an
LDS library close by.
Happy Holidays!
