Pat,

I found Christian and Magdalena on the 1900 census (bottom of page 68A and
top of following page), still in Palmyra Twp. I think Audrey meant to say
that they were on the 1880 (not 1870) census, because I found them on the
1880 index. It is almost certainly the Christian you are looking for,
because by 1900 they have added three more children: Annie, Joseph and
Christian. Magdalena says that she has borne six children with six living,
which means that Mary and two others are not living with their parents.
Assuming that the fifth and sixth children were born after the 1880 census
and before Annie in 1887, Mary and the mystery children are probably either
married or working in another household.

Birthdates for the family in 1900 are:

Christian, September 1834, b. Germany (Hesse on 1880 census)
Magdalena, December 1851, b. Germany (Hesse on 1880 census)
William, January 1877, b. NY
Annie, April 1887, b. PA
Joseph, April 1890, b. PA
Christian, February 1893, b. PA

Christian is a naturalized citizen who emigrated in 1866 from Hesse.
Magdalena, also from Hesse, did not emigrate until 1872. They've been
married 26 years, which means that they married soon after they arrive in
America. The older children, Mary and William, were born in New York and
the rest in Pennsylvania.

Ann

P. S. It's worth noting that in both the 1880 and 1900 census, the name is
spelled Myers or Meyers. Also, since Christian died in 1908 you should be
able to get a death certificate from the Bureau of Vita Records in New
Castle, PA.
