The Brinks were residents of Rowland, Pike County for quite some time. Their
history included the surnames, Kelly, Roberts, Kimbal and Edwards. In the
1870s two Reiley brothers, canalboatmen, and their families came to the area
from New Jersey to evidently work on the Delaware & Hudson Canal. In the
less than ten years the Reiley's were there the groundwork for major changes
occurred. By 1880, one of them, Edward, had returned to New Jersey to become
a locktender on the Morris Canal. The other Reiley, William and his family,
along with the Brink family and a Meyer family and a Williams and a Griswold
had immigrated to Newaygo County, Michigan. The eldest child of Edward
Reiley, along with two children of William would marry three Brink siblings.
A Meyer, a Willliams and a Griswold would also marry three other Brink
siblings. Those six marriages of the Brink children would tie these families
together for the years ahead. Later these joinings for those who went to
Michigan would be celebrated for the next hundred years in Brink-Reiley
reunions in Michigan.
Later a daughter of Edward Reiley, Lizzie Jackman Reiley, would marry Samuel
Landis Roberts in Pennsylvania and her daughter, Della, would marry a
Plunkett.
A history of the Reiley family since their immigration to New Jersey circa
1830 is available at http://www.rootsweb.com/~njmorris/ancestors/reiley.htm
I am interested in communicating with anyone that may be related to this
extended family. Also with anyone that can provide background for the area.
Best wishes,
Dennis Reiley
