Fred...Thank you for your very informative message. Although I was very
hopeful at first that perhaps the anomaly of the spelling of the surname
COSSIN / COSSEN et al could be explained away and dealt with when I found
the rest of the family members, this turned out not to be the case.

The family COSSIN ( and variant spellings) is assumed to have "originated"
from somewhere in PA. At one time it was thought that Franklin ,Vendango
Co, was the likely location. I thought it was worth a try in Pike County,
PA but the names on the 1870 Census, with the exception of Allen, are
unfamiliar to me.

Thank you again for your generous response to my request. I haven't given
up and am looking under and over every rock (boulder) in the road.
