Working back from the 20th to the 17th, century the focus of this
presentation is on sources, which help identify research on an individual or
family when only "born in New York" may be know. Discussion concentrates on
records of the 19th century---most researchers' "brick wall" ---and includes
in-depth coverage of certain key sources.

About our speaker

Roger D. Joslyn, CG, FASG, is a Fellow of the American Society of
Genealogists and the Utah Genealogical Association. He holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree from the University of California at Davis. A full-time
genealogist since 1978, he became a Certified Genealogist in 1981. He is a
member of numerous genealogical organizations, including the New England
Historic Genealogical Society, where he was a part-time staff member from
1978 to 1982; the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, where he
serves on the Education and Publication Committee and the Library Committee;
and the National Genealogical Society, where he served on program committees
for that organization's annual Conference in the States; the Orange County
Genealogical Society.

A genealogical writer, his articles have appeared in The New York
Genealogical and Biographical Record, the American Genealogist, The
Genealogist, The New England Historic and Genealogical Resister, the
National
Genealogical Society Quarterly, The Mayflower Descendant, and several other
national publications. He is the author of the Mid-Atlantic state chapters
in
Ancestry's Red Book. Roger has lectured widely on New York topics.

Mr. Joslyn lives in the Hudson Valley of New York with his wife, Barbara,
two
sons, and three cats.
