Subject: Folklore concerning girls whistling forbidden
Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2005 11:01:12 -0500
When I was a young lad in Cambria County, I recall that my dear aunt, born
in Carrolltown in 1912 (now deceased) used to admonish girl children not to
whistle "because it made the Virgin Mary cry". Can anyone help validate the
origin of this folklore or add any comments? Thank you, David
