Hi Diane!

This is just my opinion to share:: YES! I think it's important to register
the surnames you are working on. For one, it lets others who might be
researching the same lines know you may share info & an interest in common
research. 2) You allow for others to send stuff your way, if they run
across something that may be pertinent to your research.

I, too, am in Texas & far from PA, only able to grab a few hours a week in,
if lucky & squeeze time in after 4 small kids in bed -- but it's a great
hobby (obsession, at times!) & worth the time you put into it.

Registers?

I'm very new and not a perfectionist to the genealogy of our family
tree, especially considering I'm a mom of two teenagers, housewife of
our family of four, and of course, down in Texas, far far away from
the county courthouse locations in PA . One line of our my family of
ancestors, is from the Pennsylvania area, being Pittsburgh, and on it
extends on back to Cambria.

Thus, I wondered what the pros and cons would be, to register a few of
my surnames on a register. I see that is an opportunity at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacambri/Surnames/qryindex.htm and I'm not
sure if I should step out of the comfort zone of novice and register
the surnames I am pursuing in our family tree. Or if people that
register, are considered to be pro genealogy folks, and perfectionists
too.

I guess what I'm getting at, is pretty basic. I have to rely on
resources via the internet, which I find to be excellent by the way,
and I'm not obtaining the verification paperwork on who what and where,
but instead just very new and establishing a base for the family tree,
Go ahead, and frown at me - it's OK. I know, a true genealogist will
get the papers - for for now, I'm pretty simple and basic - with baby
steps. Hey I'm retracing my steps and documenting my sources, so be
patient with me. :-)

Would it be bad to register my surnames?

Would people consider me a perfectionist and one who has all the proper
papers?

Your thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated.

Dinee :-)
