Happy Friday Everyone!
The first thing we would like to announce is a major addition to the
cemetery pages -- maps!! They can be accessed by cemetery at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacambri/CemIndex.html
or by township at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacambri/cems/_map/
However, there are a few problems. We can't identify some of the annotated
cemeteries. What makes it even harder is that there is no indication on
the maps of the size of the cemetery. This means the cemetery could have
10,000 stones or 2. If you can identify any of the "unknowns", please let
us know. We'd appreciate any comments or corrections.
Our second announcement is that we have taken over the management of the
Cambria County Archives. If you haven't visited the Archives lately (or at
all), the pages can be accessed at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/cambria/
The biggest difference between the regular webpages and the archives is
that the archives is a permanent location (you know how irritating it is
when webpages suddenly "disappear"). One of the advantages for us is that
we have a little more freedom and flexibility about what is placed
there. While there is alot of good information in the archives, we
consider it still a bit sparse. If you have any information pertaining to
Cambria County that you would like permanently placed in the Archives,
please let us know. If you have posted information to the webpages,
boards, etc., it does NOT mean that it can't be included in the archives,
too. Be sure to specify that the information is FOR THE ARCHIVES. Please
be sure to read the "Contributors Guidelines" :
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/cambria/contrib.html
before you contribute any information. This page also has a suggested list
of items to contribute. Please let us know if you have any
questions/comments/suggestions, etc.
Lastly, the transcription of the Gable book is coming along nicely. My
thanks to everyone (and there were ALOT of you) that offered your services.
Although it's still cold here and there's snow on the ground, I hope most
of you are finally getting a taste of spring!
Lynne & Diann
