Does anyone have any newspaper accounts which refer to Byrnesville? This Byrnesville is near North Barnesboro, Cambria Co., PA (not the one by Centralia). I have never seen it on a map but it is between North Barnesboro (now Northern Cambria) and Allport.
Here is one account I have collected:
The BARNESBORO STAR, BARNESBORO,PA SEPT. 27, 1913
POWDER BURN CAUSES DEATH
John Lubert, a Byrnesville Youth,Victim of Powder Explosion John, the sixteen year old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Lubert of Byrnesville, met with a fatal accident while
discharging powder Wednesday evening. He was taken to his home where medical attention
was given him and late that evening he was removed to Spangler Hospital where he
expired Thursday night. Young Lubert, was demonstrating the use of powder and its
forcefulness to a number of youths about his own age. He had a considerable amount of
the explosive lying loose in his pocket. A fire had been started for the use of
igniting the powder and in some manner the boy's clothing caught on fire.In trying to
put out his blazing clothes, a spark came in contact with the powder in his pocket and
the explosion followed. He was badly burnt about the body, and as fatal as his burns
were, he managed to reach his home. Internment in North Barnesboro Cemetery.
Anything that mentions Byrnesville would be excellent!
Does anyone know if any of the early Cambria newspapers can be searched on line?
Thanks to all,
~Ed
