My ancestor's brother died at Andersonville also. He was William H.
Connelly from Millville in Johnstown. I just got a copy of his pension file
from the National Archives. He never married, so his mother applied for his
pension after his father died. The paperwork back and forth was surprising.
The government kept telling her she didn't provide something or that she was
already receiving a pension. She hired attorneys to represent her, but in
the end they denied her a pension. Then she died. I wonder if parents
everywhere had a difficult time receiving a pension from the government for
a son who died in the Civil War. Has anyone else seen this problem?
