The Straka sounds very similar to Strank. It may be a long shot, but
maybe it was Americanized to Strank. I know that the Strank family lived
in the Conemaugh/Franklin area. Many of our history buffs will remember
Sergeant Michael Strank from WWII who helped raise the flag on Iwo Jima.
I, also, have Austrian Great Grandparents. Their names were Piotr and
Antonina Tracz and they lived near Chestnut Street on Nutmeg Court in
East Conemaugh Boro. The name Tracz was Americanized to Troch, Tracy,
and Krutch.
Almost all the houses that were on Chestnut Street are gone now.
I'll keep the name Straka in mind. Maybe I'll come across something.
