I would think researchers would send a SASE and a copy fee when requesting
information from anyone.

We wish to take this opportunity to address a terrible misunderstanding
regarding our funeral homes and our death records.  Doug Srock had approached
us with the idea of copying our records to post on the internet.  At first,
we were reluctant to the idea.  We didn't feel the families that we have
served and that have supported us for so many years, would appreciate their
personal family information being so public.  Doug had assured us that he
would only post information which would be pertinent to genealogy researchers
and would not include cause of death, ss#'s, etc. and only names and dates of
death, birth, and cemetery where buried.  After much consideration, we
decided this would be very convenient to anyone who had access to a
computer.  And anyone living out of the area who would be unable to travel
this far to research these records themselves.  As we have many job tasks to
complete, we don't always have the time to do multiple searches.   We finally
agreed to let Doug copy our information, unaware at that time that there
would be any fees for this service.  After he had visited our office several
times, he mentioned during a conversation that there was a membership fee to
access information on his website.  He didn't mention what that fee amount
was and we weren't concerned, as anyone who didn't wish to pay his fee could
still come to us and receive that information for free.  We weren't aware of
any problems until Jean Sharbaugh contacted us.  Long-Contres Funeral Homes
does not profit from this service in any way.  All being said, we would like
to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone and assure you that
our records are available at no charge to the public, as always.  Please feel
free to contact us at anytime.  If time allows we can research for you.  If
not, you are always welcome to visit us and look through our
books yourselves.  Please contact us first to be sure there are no
viewings scheduled, as our books are located in the Northern
