Subject: [PaCambri] Policies at Rootsweb

Good morning,

An email came through this morning that probably broke more rules at
Rootsweb than I can possibly name. Not to mention the violation of what I
consider to be just plain good manners. So, here is a general guideline
for anyone who has forgotten.

It is ABSOLUTELY against Rootsweb policy for anyone to solicit for money
for ANY project. If you have a pay-per-view site, you can include the
address in your signature block. Period. You may not solicit for viewers,
information to be included, list fees, etc. If you have a book or other
information to sell, you may include a brief description and ask anyone who
may be interested to contact you. No mention of money. Period. No
exceptions.

Rootsweb is for the free exchange of information. "Free" as in not
closely monitored and no money involved. We have so many volunteers on
this list and on our website that give so much of their time and resources
to make this a wonderful place to do research. You shouldn't have to worry
that any information you post may get harvested for a pay site, or for any
other purpose than what you intended -- the free exchange of information.

Should you encounter any other examples of policy violations, I hope you
will let me or Diann know so that we can handle the situation. If you have
any questions, we will try to answer them.

Thank you,

Lynne
Your Co-List Lady
